Kyoto is a beautiful city that’s filled with cultural heritage, historical sites, and amazing restaurants. You can easily spend your entire trip exploring the city center or going to nearby areas like Nara or Osaka. But sometimes you need to escape from all that chaos and relax by yourself. LUXURY HOTELS IN KYOTO
The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto
The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is the perfect place to stay if you’re planning on spending a lot of time in Japan’s ancient capital. Located just a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station, it offers easy access to all of the city’s major tourist sites and attractions.
Here are some other reasons why I think this hotel is one of the best hotels in Kyoto:
- The location is excellent. It’s within walking distance—about 15 minutes—of Kyoto Station (the main train station), which makes it easy for visitors to get around without having to rely on taxis or public transportation.
- The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, with everyday amenities like free Wi-Fi and an LCD TV with cable channels included in the room rate (unlike many other hotels where these services cost extra). There’s also plenty of space so that you can spread out your stuff while still having enough room for everyone who will be staying there with you.
Hyatt Regency Kyoto
- Location: Located in the city center, it’s a short walk from Kyoto Station.
- Price: Starting at $221 per night for a standard room during high season.
- Amenities: Complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi, fitness center, business center, indoor pool with jacuzzi and sauna rooms.
- Service: The hotel staff was friendly and helpful upon arrival; they assisted us with our luggage and offered us complimentary water bottles on our way out the door every day.
Hotel Granvia Kyoto
The Hotel Granvia Kyoto is a great value for the money. It’s not on the main street of Kyoto, but it’s a 3-minute walk to Kyoto Tower. The famous Arashiyama area and Fushimi Inari Shrine with hundreds of red gates are within a 15-minute train ride from the Kyoto Station. The staff speaks English well and can help you arrange everything from transportation to dinner reservations if needed.
MID-RANGE AND BUDGET HOTELS IN KYOTO
HOTEL TAVINOS Kyoto
Located in downtown Kyoto, the hotel is within walking distance of the city’s main attractions and shopping areas. From there, you can easily reach buses to other parts of the city. Also nearby are restaurants and stores selling various goods.
Price Range: $$$$ ($150+ per night)
Amenities: Free WiFi; in-room safe; air conditioning; satellite TV channels; refrigerator/minibar in some rooms.
Kyoto Hana Hotel
Kyoto Hana Hotel is located in a convenient location, just steps from Kyoto’s famous Gion district. The hotel offers both traditional Japanese and Western-style rooms, with amenities like free Wi-Fi and satellite TV. Guests will also find an onsite restaurant serving both Japanese and Western specialties.
The staff at the front desk are available 24 hours a day to help you plan your time in Kyoto or answer any questions you may have about the city.
Village Kyoto
Located in the Gion district, this hotel is on a hilltop and offers views of Kyoto from some rooms. The location is convenient for exploring the city’s attractions, and you’ll be surrounded by shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The Village Kyoto is also known for its Japanese garden and restaurant with an extensive menu of teas (green tea) and sake (rice wine).
The hotel has a traditional design that includes wooden floors and furniture made from cherry wood. It also has an enclosed bathtub in each room; some rooms have private hot springs baths attached to them as well—a luxurious treat!
Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyoto Ekimae
Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyoto Ekimae is located in the heart of Kyoto, a short walk from the city’s main train station and bus stop. Inside you’ll find restaurants and shops selling local specialties, as well as Japanese massage parlors (which are not just for tourists).
The hotel has two types of rooms: regular rooms and deluxe suites with marble bathrooms. Both types have large windows, giving you a view of the surrounding cityscape no matter where you stay.
The hotel also has several restaurants on site: one serves traditional Japanese cuisine while another offers Western food like pizza or burgers. There’s also an all-you-can-eat buffet if you’re looking for something cheap but filling!
Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo
- Location: The Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo is located in Hachijo, a short walk from Ginkakuji Temple and the Kiyomizu Temple.
- Room Amenities: All rooms have air conditioning and WiFi access. Some rooms also have refrigerators.
- Restaurant & Bar: There’s no restaurant on-site, but you can use room service to order food from nearby restaurants or to heat up leftovers from your trip. The bar serves beer, wine, sake, and cocktails after 6 p.m.; prices range between ¥1,000-¥3,000 per drink depending on what you’re drinking (including alcoholic beverages like whisky). The hotel does not serve breakfast itself but there are plenty of restaurants nearby where you can get something for around ¥1,500 if you don’t want to go out for breakfast every morning; otherwise, there are many convenience stores within walking distance of the hotel so it’s easy enough to pick up some snacks from those locations if needed! There are vending machines available at reception too which sell drinks such as hot chocolate (¥200), coffee (¥250) tea varieties including green tea lattes made with soy milk options available too (¥200). If these options aren’t appealing then take advantage when checking into your room about other options available including upon request via emailing them beforehand!
Imu Hotel Kyoto
The IMU HOTEL KYOTO is a 5-minute walk from Hankyu Karasuma Station and Shijo-Karasuma Metro Station. This hotel is perfectly located in the Shimogyo Ward neighborhood and features stylish, contemporary rooms as well as a communal area with a cafe and bar. There is free WiFi available all across the place. The 24-hour front desk offers free luggage storage.
Rihga Gran Kyoto
Located in the heart of downtown Kyoto, this hotel is within a 10-minute walk of Nijo Castle and Kiyomizu Temple. National Museum of Modern Art and Kyoto Gosho are also within 2 mi (3 km).

Vessel Hotel Campana Kyoto Gojo is one of the best hotels in Kyoto, located in the Karasuma-Oike district. The hotel is near the Kyoto Tower and Kyoto Station, so getting around the city is easy. When you’re done exploring, relax at their Japanese restaurant or indoor swimming pool with spa.
The rooms are spacious and modern with clean lines (and some have great views), so it’s a great place for a romantic getaway or even just a weekend staycation if you live close by!
Miru Kyoto Nishiki
The hotel’s location, in the heart of Kyoto’s shopping district and a short walk to many of its main attractions, makes it a great choice for anyone looking to spend time exploring the city. The Nishiki Market is only two blocks away, where you can find everything from fresh seafood to traditional kimono fabrics. Also nearby are: The Imperial Palace (just a few minutes’ walk down Kawaramachi Street), Shijo-Oji Shotengai (a historic shopping street with over 250 shops), Yasaka Shrine and Gion Kobu Kaburenjyo Theater (home to ancient geishas).
Hotel Vista Premio Kyoto Nagomi tei
Hotel Vista Premio Kyoto Nagomi tei is a good choice for those who want to stay in Kyoto. It has two restaurants and an onsite bar that offer a wide range of choices, making this hotel one of the best hotels in Kyoto. The location is close to major attractions and restaurants. The rooms are very quiet and smallish but comfortable. Hotel Vista’s staffs are exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a place to stay in Kyoto, there are many top-notch hotels. The Ritz-Carlton is one of my personal favorites and offers great amenities like an indoor pool and spa. If you want something more traditional then I recommend checking out the Hyatt Regency Kyoto or HOTEL TAVINOS Kyoto. You can also find cheaper options like the Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyoto Ekimae which has all the amenities needed for both business travellers as well as families with children who want to explore Japan!
